Key News Overnight:
Spot gold gained 0.3% to trade at US$1,983/oz, while U.S. gold futures settled 1% higher at US$1,985.9, after earlier breaking above US$2,000 for the first time on record.
Brent crude was up 24 US cents, or 0.6%, at US$43.52 a barrel. On Thursday, Brent closed 1.9% down after touching its lowest level since July 10.
Japanese stocks led losses among Asia’s major markets, with the Nikkei 225 down 2.82% to close at 21,710 as shares of conglomerate Softbank Group dropped 4.39% while the Topix index ending its trading day at 2.82% to 1,496.06
