Key News Overnight:
Spot gold fell 0.3% to US$1,978 /oz, having earlier hit a record high of US$1,984.66. U.S. gold futures eased 0.1% at US$1,984.10.
Brent crude rose 86 US cents, or 1.5%, to US$44.15ppb, while West Texas Intermediate crude settled 74 US cents, or 1.84%, higher at US$41.01ppb.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 jumped 2.24% to close at 22,195.38. Those moves followed the nearly 3% tumble in Japanese stocks on Friday.
The pan-European Stoxx 600 closed up by 2.2% provisionally, with autos jumping 3.8% to lead gains as all sectors advanced into positive territory
